What CORTIS Members Have in Common

Let’s look at what Martin, Juhoon and Keonho all love. Whose taste is closest to yours, and which of these foods do you want to try first?

Team Red Bean

Martin, Juhoon and Keonho all love their bungeoppang filled with sweet red bean. In Korea, you can find bungeoppang stuffed with all kinds of fillings: custard cream, pizza sauce and cheese, chocolate cream, even sweet potato mousse. It’s Korea’s iconic winter street food, so if you visit Korea, you have to try it! Not a red bean fan? Try another flavor!

Blonde Kimchi Tips 👱🏼‍♀️🥬

When I lived in Belgium, most of my European friends totally hated red bean. But fill it with chocolate like Nutella instead, and they loved it. So if you ever run an Asian café, I recommend adding Nutella or chocolate cream to the menu, haha. (You’re welcome!)

CORTIS, the Ramyeon Lovers

Keonho, Martin and Juhoon all put ramen on their favorite food lists, but each picked a different one. Just by looking at their picks, you can tell who loves spicy food and who can’t handle it. Speaking as a Korean, I think Juhoon enjoys spicy food, while Keonho and Martin prefer milder flavors. Am I right? Let me know in the comments.

  1. Keonho, Odongtongmyeon: thick, chewy noodles in a mild seafood broth. Keonho can’t handle spicy food, so this is his safe zone.
  2. Martin, Ansungtangmyun: one of Korea’s original ramen brands and so mild that Korean kids love it.
  3. Juhoon, Yeol Ramyun: spicier than Shin Ramyun but not as hot as Buldak. Juhoon loves spicy food, so he sits at the top.

Team Korean Fried Chicken, No Yangnyeom

Keonho and Juhoon both said they prefer plain fried chicken over yangnyeom (sweet and spicy) chicken. Which one do you like more? If you’re Team Yangnyeom and your friend is Team Fried, order ban ban chicken, half fried and half yangnyeom. That’s how lots of Koreans order! And don’t be sad that you can’t get it where you live. I made an easy recipe so you can cook it at home.

Ban Ban Korean Fried Chicken – Half Yangnyeom & Half Fried

Today, let's make crispy Korean Fried Chicken at home. This is ban ban chicken (half-and-half), which Koreans love. I prepared it with half fried and half yangnyeom (Korean sweet and spicy sauce). You'll be surprised how much this sauce tastes exactly like the one from Korean chicken brands.

Sweet Potato Pizza Fans

Sorry, my American and European friends, but Korean pizza is sweet. The sweetest of them all is sweet potato pizza, and guess what? Juhoon and Keonho say it’s their favorite. Your bias loves it, so as a COER, would you try it when you come to Korea? Or pass?

The Acai Bowl Obsession

CORTIS collaborated with Oakberry, a global acai brand, and even made a song about it. The CORTIS BOWL combines banana, blueberry, granola, strawberry and peanut butter. But really, who doesn’t love an acai bowl? Which version is your favorite?

Korean BBQ Lovers

What does CORTIS eat? Of course, Korean BBQ!! Martin went with the classics: samgyeopsal (pork belly), the most popular Korean BBQ in Korea, and chadolbaegi (thinly sliced beef brisket). Juhoon, on the other hand, mentioned smoked duck, which I thought was pretty unique, since most Koreans prefer grilling pork or beef.

Blonde Kimchi Story 👱🏼‍♀️🥬

That said, smoked duck is a really common Korean home-cooked dish too. My mom makes it almost every week… maybe a little too often, haha. That’s why smoked duck was one of the Korean foods I missed most while living in Belgium. You can buy smoked duck in Belgium, but it tastes nothing like the Korean kind. Korean smoked duck is thicker and seasoned with spices for a rich, savory umami flavor.

Korean BBQ Recipe: Pork Belly (Samgyupsal) Without Grill

Let's make Korean BBQ at home! For Koreans, Korean BBQ can be a quick 15-minute meal for days when you don't feel like cooking. It's a dish enjoyed at gatherings with friends and family as well as at home alone. The home version is much simpler.

Martin: The Sweet Tooth Leader

Mint chocolate, Hawaiian pizza, chocolate milk… Martin’s taste is all about sweet. In Korea, we’d call him “aegi ipmat,” someone with a kid’s taste.

  • Must-try pick: Kkobuk Chip Choco Churros. This is one of my all-time favorite Korean snacks! It’s super crunchy, coated in chocolate on the outside, with a hint of cinnamon. You can even find it in Europe now, and I’m sure it’s in the US too.

Juhoon: The Spice Lover

Yeol Ramyun, jjamppong, kimchi jjigae… I’m going to call Juhoon the Chili Boy, haha.

  • Must-try pick: Smoked duck, his unique Korean BBQ choice.

Keonho: The Maknae with a Dad’s Palate

Sweet potato pizza and salted caramel ice cream sound like a kid, but baeksuk chicken soup and Samanko ice cream with red bean paste sound like a 40-year-old Korean dad. (Fun fact: Samanko is my dad’s favorite ice cream, haha.)

  • Must-try pick: Mom’s Touch chicken thigh burger. Koreans like it way, way more than McDonald’s chicken burgers. If you come to Korea, you have to try it!

James and Seonghyeon: Coming Soon

I haven’t forgotten James and Seonghyeon!

Keonho. His go-to ramen is Odongtongmyeon, a mild seafood-based ramen. Martin also prefers mild ramen like Ansungtangmyun.

Juhoon. His favorite ramen is Yeol Ramyun, and he also enjoys jjamppong and kimchi jjigae.

Martin does! He is proudly “mincho-pa,” the Korean name for mint chocolate lovers.
