Steamed Pork with Cabbage - Weight Loss Korean Hot Pot

Today, let’s make Steamed pork shoulder with cabbage for weight loss.I lost 20kg, and I used to eat this kind of steamed cabbage dish a lot back then. Many Koreans have eaten this Korean hot pot and lost fat too. Let’s make this healthy and delicious dish together!

Equipment

  • 1 deep wok with a lid (jeongol pot)
  • 1 Cutting board & knife
  • 1 Spatula
  • 1 Spoon

Ingredients
  

Steamed Pork Shoulder with Cabbage

  • 300 g pork shoulder (substitutions in the blog post)
  • 2 pinches salt & pepper (for seasoning the pork)
  • 1/2 onion
  • 1/2 stalk green onion
  • 1/4 head cabbage
  • 1 tbsp minced garlic
  • 4 tbsp Korean soju (or white whine or matsul)
  • 50 ml water (+ an extra 50 ml if it looks like it might burn)
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 100 g enoki mushrooms

Dipping Soy Sauce

  • 4 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp vinegar
  • 1 tbsp cooking wine
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp Korean plum syrup (substitutions in the blog post)
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds

Instructions
 

  • Lightly season the pork shoulder with salt and pepper.

  • Thinly slice the onion, cube the cabbage.

  • In a heated pan, lightly sear the pork on both sides to lock in the juices. Remove and set aside.

  • In the same pan, sauté the onion until translucent. Then add minced garlic and cabbage, stir-fry briefly.

  • Pour in 1 tbsp soy sauce, stir, then add 4 tbsp of soju and 50 ml of water.
  • Place the pork back on top of the cabbage and enoki mushiooms.

  • Cover with a lid, and steam on low heat for 10–15 minutes.
    If the liquid reduces too much or starts to burn, add an extra 50 ml of water.

  • Once everything is tender, sprinkle chopped green onions over the top as garnish.

Dipping Sauce

  • In a small bowl, mix all ingredients for the dipping soy sauce.
    Adjust sugar and vinegar to your taste.
